Before 5G services officially launched B2C (business-to-consumer) services, in order to promote related services to users, fierce competition among telecommunications companies in South Korea began. This strategy is mainly in the timing of 4G to 5G conversion. Creating a better service impression will make it easier to ensure market share.According to the Korean media "Korean Daily", 5G services have been fiercely competitive from construction to commercialization. In order to separate the winners and losers in the multimedia content market, SK Telecom not only set up a cooperative company to launch a vertical and horizontal strategy; LG U + also joined Google Work together to produce virtual reality (VR) content; KT Telecom also launched an experience bus to get closer to consumers. Telecom vendors have started competing for content services, mainly because 5G services are officially opened, and future network environments will have faster network speeds, and high-traffic services such as various video content will be the future trend.
A person in the telecommunications company said that before the start of LTE services in the past, many customers had a better impression of a particular company, which led to the loss of some customers. To be precise, before users officially use 5G services, it is important to publicize that they can provide more diversified services than competing companies.
SK Telecom has partnered with South Korean VOD (Video On Demand) video platform Pooq, and plans to start providing services within the first quarter of this year, intending to attract customers with free services. In addition, it plans to cooperate with the US media group Sinclair Broadcast Group and provide content to SK Telecom users.
LG U + has also spent a lot of effort in managing media content. Recently, it has also partnered with Google to develop 3D VR content. The two companies will invest in half to develop various VR content. It is expected to be displayed and promoted together with Google's VR equipment. KT Telecom also started to release relevant media content after the commercialization of 5G services, and began to run 5G experience buses from February 2nd, intending to use this to get closer to users.
In the environment where a large number of devices are used at the same time, 5G can still maintain high network speeds. This has enabled telecommunications manufacturers to start B2B (inter-company transaction) 5G services last December and actively apply 5G in smart factories, smart cities, Unmanned and other fields.
In December last year, SK Telecom and the Intelligent Manufacturing Innovation Center jointly introduced robots and module engineering solutions for smart factory systems. At the same time, it is also cooperating with Seoul City to build 5G transportation infrastructure equipment. It is planned to use this equipment to detect potholes on the road, pedestrians crossing the road without authorization, traffic accidents, etc., and guide vehicles to drive.
KT cooperated with Hyundai MOBIS to develop driverless cars, and established a pilotless pilot city in Huacheng City. In particular, this pilot city operates on a 5G network, and also develops 5G communication network technology with Hyundai MOBIS.
Another telecommunication person also pointed out that based on the experience and performance accumulated before the official 5G service started, the telecommunications company will become a company that provides solutions. In general, in addition to competition among telecommunications companies, investing in 5G is also intended to expand the field Strategy.
